They have VPN servers in Amsterdam, Paris, Montreal, Seattle, Hong Kong and Miami. On Linux you can choose between servers by adding -select-gateway switch to the launcher. And to my knowledge they do not block P2P.

Invitation is only required for the Riseup ‘Red’ account (email, xmpp). Their VPN is open to anyone.

My recommendations for VPN selection:

  • Read the VPN guide at privacytools.io - it’s excellent, written with privacy in mind, and easy to understand.

  • The VPN comparison chart at thatoneprivacysite.net is also good, it’s rather technical and requires some knowledge of VPN technology. But if you know what is important for you, then it’s a good guide.

  • AVOID most sites that list “Top 10 Best VPN Apps of 2020” and so on. Many of them are paid advertisements. Before trusting such a site, try to find some information about it.

AirVPN has removed the Hong Kong VPNs. This is a trusted VPN.

Removing hong kong server dose not mean it can be trusted

by whom? I believe the main issue with it is the ownership is unknown.

Keep in mind, only the ones on PrivacyTools have had security audits. We don’t recommend any providers which have not had an audit. We also like the source code to be available for any client applications produced.

We have a criteria, https://www.privacytools.io/providers/vpn/#criteria which details the sorts of things we look for when considering listing.
