I’m using Android, but I would like to improve security and privacy, but please tell me how to set it up and what apps to use. I want to keep away from popular services. (Google, Facebbok, Amazon, Dropbox, Microsoft, etc.) Please be sure to

be encrypted,

free open source applications to introduce.

“News” is likely the wrong category for this.

If you want more security and privacy, you must start with your phone. Choose one that gets patches for its operating system on a regular basis. Keep in mind that cellphones/smartphones contain different hardware components that are nearly always proprietary. Even if you install LineageOS without Google Apps or special ROMs like /e/, there will be likely network traffic to Google servers (e.g. NTP, connectivity check).

If you want open-source apps, install F-Droid and use only apps from this store. However, this doesn’t imply that apps from there are automatically “secure” or “private”. As mentioned in another thread, there isn’t an easy answer to such requests. “Security” is much more than only installing “security” apps, and “privacy” is mostly a legal topic.
