i mean yeah youtube-dl and alltomp3 (created on top of youtube-dl if i remember correct) are your best bet! (another option go to yt itself and copy vid link then download it from there direct or with/inside VLC) so yeah there is a lot of options

It’s better to work with OSS, but it’s not guarantee of security.

We generally like to say the floss is not a guarantee, but a requirement.

That said being opensource is not a requirement to be listed on privacytools, as long as there is not secure and usable open source alternative.

IIRC Video DownloadHelper (above) premium https://www.downloadhelper.net/convert can perform the required conversion in most such cases. The cost is not exorbitant.

For recommended software, yes open source. We don’t need people suggesting gazillion closed source programs which have open source alternatives. However that said, with some things where you don’t actually have the software, ie a VPN provider’s back end or an email provider’s server, we aren’t purists about this. We aim to make suggestions on privacytools.io a shortlist of the best, not an exhaustive list of everything that exists.

Install ffmpeg it works just fine… Using rss a simple python script can fetch them automatically. I have something similar and would be happy to upload it codeberg if anyone may find it useful.
