Anonymous on a used laptop

Greetings everyone,
I’ve been reading up on privacy and anonymity for some time now. One of the things that I consistently hear is that for top-notch anonymity one should purchase a new computer that has never been used by anyone, install linux, use a VPN, Firefox (with all the recommended settings found on, etc. But for some of us, the idea of buying a new computer that has never been used is simply not possible. What steps would you take to ensure the highest level of anonymity and privacy on a computer that is not new (and that has had Windows 10 on it before…eeks!)? Thanks in advance and I look forward to chatting with you all.

Well first of all, wipe the harddrive, making sure there is nothing left of the original os, and another thibk you can do is update the bios. Secondly, your better to use a linux based os where possible.

Something like Darik’s Boot and Nuke (DOD wipe) or the Parted Magic boot disk (drive level wipe) does an effective job.
